The Filla Family

Remember Josie, the amazing girl from my last post? Well, here she is again with a little hair and the rest of her family. I had told Kelly, Josie’s mom, that I wanted to do a shoot with Josie after she had shaved her head, so two weeks ago we met up at City Garden. I was happy to see that her whole family turned up, so after I was finished with Josie I dragged the rest of them into some photos. The one thing that I always see, as I’m sure you will as well, is how much Scott and Kelly love each other and love their kids. They are an amazing family who has been through so much together and it is apparent how strong their family bond is.

So, Scott, Kelly, Gabby and Josie–thank you so much for letting me share in the love of your beautiful family. Love you all!

Enjoy….there are quite a few….

The Amazing Josie

I cried today. And I’m happy to say that it was a good cry. A happy and proud cry. I had the chance to go and support my friends’ daughter Josie shave her head in front of hundreds of people. Josie is a Leukemia survivor, and one of the most inspirational children I have ever met. She was a participant in the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, which is an organization that donates money to cancer research for children. So to help celebrate Josie and her cause I went and took a few photos of her to share with everyone. This was too special of a story to keep to myself. I also included the letter that she shared with all of us explaining her reasons behind her decision. So, if you would like to feel a little inspiration read Josie’s letter and feel good that there are children out there as generous and courageous as she is. I’m also happy to say that Josie has been cancer free for 5 years.

These are for you Miss Josie, thank you for letting me take photos of your beautiful bald head!

Lucy Emiline Hargis: Our Newest Edition

It all started about a month ago when Noah and I went to pick up medicine for the Meow. His vet is in a PetSmart, and yes our cat’s name is Meow. Chairman Meow to be exact. This was right after the last big snow. So, we were really not in a hurry to get back to the house. Going to the vet was a big event that day. So, I say to Noah, “Hey, wanna see if they have some kitties over there?” And thus began the long and hellish road to adopting Lucy. We had absolutely NO intentions of getting a new cat. None. And then we saw her. And then we played with her. And then we were in love with Lucy. We decided that adopting Lucy would be great. Well, it wasn’t as easy as we thought and so it looked as though Lucy wouldn’t be joining our family after all. It’s a long and ridiculous story as to how we finally got her, but lets just say I have a wonderful best friend. If you want the full scoop, feel free to ask, I love getting worked up over it. It involves a really really REALLY mean girl. We’ll call her CS. And all I have to say to her is, we won.

Meet Lucy.

The Qualls FAmily

Finally, FINALLY I get to blog the session I had with the Qualls Family back in November. They made me wait because they were going to surprise their family with the photos for Christmas. So I have been itching to blog this and I got the go ahead and THEN I had to find time to put it together. So…here we are, finally.
I started working with the Qualls family when their son Donovan was born last year. They are such a cute family and so much fun to work with that when Tom sent me an email requesting a family session that week (if possible) I said, UH YEAH! And so we spent the morning in Forest Park. I think the fun and love they have for each other is seen beautifully through their images.

Ellen and Tom, thanks so much for having me photograph your family and I am looking forward to May when I get to see you again for baby #2!

A little holiday fun…

Last weekend my parents were able to come in and visit from Indy. And because my husband is such a thinker, he decided that it would be a great time to buy our Christmas tree. Now, I always mean to buy my tree early (especially since we spend Christmas in Indianapolis), but time always manages to slip past and we get it for about a week before we have to leave. So, we bundled up and went to Hartke Nursery which is an awesome family run nursery that is right by our house. We’ve bought our tree there for the last two years (not to mention some of the best herbs and flowers for our garden) and I would never go anywhere else. The tree we got was the second one we looked at and probably the most perfect tree we have ever had. Yea!!! But what was even better that getting our tree 21 days before Christmas was that this was the first time my parents have been able to be in St. Louis to decorate our tree. My mom getting to help Noah find the perfect spots on the tree for his ornaments while my dad got to watch was incredibly special. Decorating the tree was always a big deal when I was young and I was really happy to be able to make it a special one for all of us this year.

Thanks again to my fabulous husband for his very thoughtful idea and thanks to my fabulous 100mm macro lens for your hard work and allowing me to get so close up.

So, enjoy my most special perfect Christmas tree… thus far…

Merry Christmas!!!
